Sound on! Listen to Virgil playing the piano in this exclusive clip! We know Virgil loves to relax in the Tracy Lounge by tinkling the ivories, he is often seen in front of the piano as seen in Chain Of Command and Up from the Depths Part 1. We are sure the other Thunderbirds don’t object to being surrounded by such beautiful music!
The telecall was before it’s time, it was the original FaceTime! A communication device that could transmit video and audio together or separately.
The telecall relied on “phonavision’ technology and was seen in multiple Thunderbirds locations, obviously on Jeff Tracys desk but also seen at the Parola Sands raceway and in the control tower of London International Airport!
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Thunderbirds original TV series, which was first aired in September, 1965, the Haynes Thunderbirds Agents’ Technical Manual was updated and made available to purchase in 2015. Now sadly out of print, you can see the beautiful technical illustrations by Graham Bleathman in this Guardian article.
In 1992 there was a shortage of Tracy Island playsets in the run up to Christmas, this was due to a re-run of Thunderbirds and the population either re-kindling or finding for the first time their love for Thunderbirds!
Blue Peter swooped in for the rescue and created a home-made version, all yoghurt pots and sticky back plastic, which was such a hit they had to create an instruction sheet for making the model!
Thunderbirds identities are a closely guarded secret! Before any civilians visit the island, Operation Cover-Up is executed to ensure the visitors are none the wiser! The iconic video screens which are used for communicating with each Thunderbird craft and show each thunderbird looking dapper in their uniforms are swiftly replaced, by the push of a button to normal family portraits!
Thunderbirds fan, technical tinkerer and youtuber Steve98345 created a 3D printed model of Jeff Tracy's ashtray, not only that, but all controlled with his home-made Android app and picture frame that flashes when an incoming call is made
